Part x employment strands act, Public holiday pay
.

An employee’s public holiday pay for a given public holiday shall be equal to, the total amount of regular wages and vacation pay payable to the employee in the four work weeks before the work week in which the public holiday occurred, divided by 20; the amount determined using that manner of calculation 2000.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act sets out the rights and duties of all employees. Its main purpose is to protect workers against health and safety hazards on the jobs. Also the health and safety act places a general duty on employers to “take every precaution reasonable under the circumstances for the protection of the worker” and places more specific duties on employers regarding the maintenance of equipment and the training/ instruction and supervision of workers. Ministry of Labour stresses competency as the main factor.
